Cell phone coverage

New postby thecampbells » Thu Jun 04, 2009 11:25 am

I just want to inquire to see if anyone in the building has good coverage. I have heard that getting bad coverage is purely due to being in an old building and nothing to do with the provider but since moving units my coverage has gotten even worse. I used to be able to stand by my window and get decent coverage but now I can't even complete a phone call without having to call back 4 or 5 times and even then I can barely hear the person on the other end. More than just being annoying, this worries me in case there was some sort of emergency. Besides getting a land line, does anyone have solid coverage in the building?

Same here. Corey and I have Sprint and the reception is next to nothing; we had to add a land /cable line for phone service. We are buying i-Phones soon so hopefully we will have better reception with ATT.

I wouldn't count on it, I switched to AT&T from Verizon (I also could not resist the Iphone LOL) and found the reception to be about the same....crappy :(

Still, iLove the iPhone :)

Our iPhones were better than the nokia or the Treo that we had. Both the 2G and 3G were an improvement. That's not to say that it is awesome or anything, but at least with the iPhone I can stand by the window and talk. Nothing else worked.

During the move in, saw people with verizon, sprint, and nextel struglling in our apartment much more than we did. Don't know how it is now... but I think for Verizon, it's a Dead Zone (ironic that they filmed one of those commercials here)

We both have Verizon and have no issue with coverage at all...
The only time I lose a call is when I'm in the elevator.

To add to that - I also think your actual phone has something to do with reception.

In our last apartment (in a very old building on the Upper West Side)...my husband and I both had Verizon, and only he got reception inside our unit. I traded in my phone (which was an older model) for the same phone he had, and all of a sudden I was fine...

The Verizon store guy (I'm not a techie so he could have been feeding me bs) told me that different manufacturers had different receivers.

I have AT&T and have perfectly fine reception except for the elevator of course. I think it really depends on where in the building you live. I have visited my friends units that face baldwin and we all have great reception. I have noticed the position of the unit is a factor for reception b/c when i visited others I would have barely any service or none at all. I think it is an important thing to check your unit for your cell reception prior to moving in or buying.

Just this evening I received a text message from AT&T regarding increased 3G coverage in Hudson County. You can check it out at http://att.com/3gcoverage -- scroll down to NJ and click on Jersey City.

My AT&T coverage varies, sometimes it is decent other times not so much. I find EDGE to be more reliable at home for making and receiving calls. My apt faces the driveway over the lobby.

My Verizon cell phone reception is terrible and I face the city. I was forced to get a landline finally when I was fed up enough with not being able to talk to anyone.

I know that this was a problem before, but is anyone having continuing dropped calls with their Verizon wireless service? I'm on the 1st floor and I can't make it thru a call anymore due to numerous dropped calls. I'm at the end of my rope! I really don't want to get a landline, so any other suggestions?

I have Verizon, a three year old phone, and face Montgomery. I have excellent coverage with no dropped calls. Probably jinxed myself. Now in Hoboken.... and my Comcast line drops frequently.

I recently switched to T-Mobile and can use their UMA technology to make calls anywhere I can get a wireless Internet signal, works great since no carrier has good reception in my apt.. :)

When i was on the 3rd floor in Capitol, i used to get great reception on my Verizon phone.
Now I'm on the 18th in Rialto and my phone was unusable in the apartment. I called verizon and complained a few times, and finally got a call back explaining I am in a know trouble zone, and gave me the option of cancelling my service for no fees or getting a discount on the verizon network extender.

I got the to give me a pretty good discount on the network extender, 25% off plus half off a month's phone service. Now I get perfect reception with it. Kind of lame to have to spend about $150 to use my phone in my own apartment, but its better than dealing with how it was before. Every other cell company makes a similar product, and there's a few generic solutions out there.

Heath... This could have been easily resolved...All you had to do was remain on the 3rd floor with the family that misses....Crystal

How do you like the network extender? I am still with T-Mobile since the UMA technology gives me perfect call reception in my apartment (1st floor Rialto) but as much as I love the technology, I've kinda been salivating over the Droid however until I know it will work correctly here I can't go for it
